Prayer

In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what we do. From this place we can shift our focus from ourselves to God, and can receive his grace, his love, and his wisdom.

Understanding Prayer

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. - John 17:20-21

Prayer is the heart’s cry to a loving Father, a conversation with a Best Friend, a dialogue with a trusted Counselor. We often make prayer complicated, thinking there is a magic formula to get what we want. But really it is very simple, so simple a child can do it. It is so easy it becomes as second nature as breathing.

Pour your heart out to God. Tell Him what hurts, what doesn’t make sense, what is great, and what you appreciate. There are no special words, no formulas, no rules. What God desires is honesty, transparency and connection. He listens to every word! He longs to hear your voice.

Answered prayer

Praising God for blessings already received increases our faith and enables us to approach God with boldness, assured that nothing is impossible with Him. In Luke 17 we read of Jesus healing ten men. When only one came back to say thank you, Jesus asks why the other nine did not come to give thanks. Has God answered a prayer? Please let us know so we can celebrate and thank God with you.

AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray He told them to call God their Father. This was revolutionary. To call the God who hung the stars in place and holds the mountains in the palm of His hand by a name that is so personal and intimate as Father had never been done before. Yet God longs for us to have a personal and intimate relationship with Him. He invites us in to speak to Him directly, no middle man, no secret language. Our entrance into this intimate relationship is through prayer.
